We Don’t Want an Arm and a Leg - Just Your Tows
In 1958 Dave and Ruth Young purchased 8.4 acres of land from Ruth’s father Ralph Passmore with a dream of some day starting their own business.
In January, 1960 with $100 cash and $300 borrowed for an air compressor a little piece of that dream became reality when Dave and Ruth Young started their own business called Young’s Garage in the basement of their home. Dave worked the mechanical end of the business doing repairs and state inspections while Ruth picked up parts and scheduled appointments using their freezer as a desk. Eleven years later in June 1971 their dream was complete with the business incorporating and moving to 1022 Lenape Road (Rt. 52) from under their home.
The original steel section of the building measured 75’ x 40’ and was built by Jack Alexander. The fill for the garage came from the crossroads at Birmingham and Rt 52 when the intersection was reconstructed eliminating a steep incline.
The summer of 1979 expanded on the family owned business with a new addition measuring 50’ x 30’, and Tim graduating from high school. Tim came to the business full time after graduation from ATC trade school in April 1980. He joined his sisters Beth and Sydney, who worked in the office after school and during the summer months to complete a second generation involved in Young’s Garage Inc.
In addition to repairing vehicles, Young’s Garage houses a towing business with presently a fleet of five tow trucks. The color of the first owned tow truck being green before Dave started Young’s Garage with several blue and white lettered trucks through out the years to the present color of red with white lettering.
The year 1992 brought more changes with a second addition measuring 30’ x 60’ and the company computerizing. In 1993 the original stock room was moved and a new office was built. In August 1994 Tim being the second generation of Young’s along with his wife Augie, who works in the office, committed to carrying on the dream. The future holds a third generation of Young’s being groomed to take over the business in years to come.
